Right on Track

I’m not really sure what attracts me so much to sliding barn doors, but I just absolutely adore them!

So considering it fits in with this horsey week, I’ve indulged in a little Pinterest collection of barn door beauties. Everything from rustic to gorgeous pops of colours, plus a couple contemporary takes in the mix too! How great is the mirror door idea and the glass cabinet front?!

The Dark Side

I am currently loving high contrast colour use in homes, so I thought I might share some inspiration with you on how to use big blocks of black in your colour scheme.

Whether it be exteriors or interiors, black can be used for dramatic effect without feeling foreboding or claustrophobic. It seems the trick is balance, the colour black needs a partner in crime and wood, metallics or crisp white make the perfect combinations. The contrast of these tones or materials allow breaks in the colour which creates a sense of balance and avoids creating a cave like atmosphere.

Black also works for a multitude of styles, see below just how beautifully it can complement both a contemporary or classic style. A feature wall in black is the perfect colour to give extra depth to a space and also acts as a great backdrop to highlight artworks, photographs or special objects.

So can I tempt you over to the dark side with me?

Shell Shocked

One thing that instantly makes everyone think ‘seaside’ is shells! I’m pretty sure each and everyone one of us has collected shells along the beach shore in a classic cliché style.

I actually adore shells. I love all the intricate details, shapes and colours that they come in and could happily forage for hours looking for different specimens. Using shells in your decor has always been a staple in nautical interiors but recently I have noticed a resurgence in the popularity of shell lights.

After a little web trawling I was pleasantly surprised at the variety available on the market, something to suit most tastes and styles! So banish your thoughts of those 70s frames and small ornaments covered with a glued layer of shells (remember those?!!) and embrace the new era of shell decor.

Everyone gives chocolate at Easter, so why don’t you mix it up a bit and give something a little more special? Time to go hopping mad for all the Thomas Paul bunnies.

Rugs are great, but you always need to worry about spills and dirty shoes staining them right? Wrong!

They are made using new and recycled soft plastic foil which makes them waterproof, colour fast and kid friendly.
